Fragile does not automatically mean delicate. A solid ceramic ornament may feel tough in your hand, but a small knock to a thin edge can still chip it. The aim is to stop contact between pieces and prevent movement inside the box.
Wrap each piece separately
Use clean packing paper as the first layer. Bubble wrap can then add cushioning, particularly around handles, narrow necks and projecting details. Avoid letting sticky tape touch the surface of an item.
Choose a box that leaves room for padding but is not so large that you need to fill half of it. Create a soft base, place heavier pieces at the bottom and keep a clear cushion between every object.
Do the gentle shake test
Before sealing the box, move it slightly. If anything shifts, add more paper or padding. A box marked fragile still has to be carried, stacked and driven over speed bumps. The label is a reminder, not protection by itself.
For valuable, sentimental or unusually shaped objects, it is worth showing them to the removal team before moving day. They may recommend a separate carton or a stronger export-style pack.
