Moving House With a Dog: What Worked for Our Customers

Practical ways to keep dogs safe and settled during a busy moving day.

Moving day is noisy, doors stay open and familiar furniture disappears. Even a relaxed dog can become unsettled.

If possible, arrange for your dog to stay with somebody they know until loading is complete. If that is not practical, use one quiet room with water, bedding and a clear sign on the closed door so nobody opens it by mistake.

Keep the lead, food, bowls, medication and favourite blanket with you rather than in the removal van. At the new property, check the garden boundary before letting the dog explore. Update the microchip address too. It is easy to forget among the larger jobs.

Try to keep the first evening boring and familiar: normal food, the usual walk and their own bed. The boxes can wait until tomorrow.
